Justyn Norek Jnr’s,  Whitlock framed Ossa MAR…

Way back in the covid years, our World had come to a stop

And this stopped the flow of articles that the Justyn’s Norek were sending along with these superb photos and the write up’s of young Justyn’s riding tests of the machines …

Well during that time the notes for the riding tests and notes that the family had were stowed away in a cabin in the mountains, and they could not get to them. So if you remember I had to try and improvise and translate what I had…

Then when we got back to something like normal, and living again the World had changed…

Nothing was the same.. and young Justyn had to take on winter and summer full time jobs to be able to keep up with his life style, and afford to continue to add to his motorcycle collection and help support the family… So the trials and motocross tests could now be done only when there was any spare time and that is still short  Justyn told me. So although I was sent several albums of machine photographs I have just left them sitting waiting for the test write ups… And that now seem like a shame now in 2024, because you could be enjoying them…So here is the first page of this format, and I will add what I know, and If the Justyn’s have time to do ride out tests, and notes later they will be added.

First up then...

The Mick Whitlock framed Ossa MAR

With the introduction of the Ossa Mick Andrews Replica (MAR) to the general public in 1970-2 most of the production was quickly snapped up and the bikes were soon winning first class awards, and indeed trials… like all production products there were faults and a couple stood out on this machine. The factory in their wisdom had decided to use a glass-fibre strengthened with graffil carbon strips  for the materiel for the under engine bash plate, Mick had used alloy on the prototype as this was of an integral strength member for the frame… there was flexing in the plastic replacement and that caused frame twisting, and the loss of the rear chain in sections was loosing marks… the other main fault was the very short wheel base  this was alright for sharp turns but added to lost rear wheel grip on long climbs…another thing that Mick Andrews had asked the factory to change but fell on deaf ears. Bob Gollner  who was Ossa agent and sold a good part of the production sent to the UK, could see the faults, and got good friend Mick Whitlock involved,  a jig was soon constructed and the faults rectified with a longer swinging arm and alloy torsional bash plate. The frame kits sold quickly like all Whitlock built frames. And the photos we have only proves that how well these frame have lasted.

Works of engineering "Art"always stand out I think...

OK... Lets have a drink before we start...

And take in the Autumn, or should that be Spring  sunshine...

Now we will look at the Whitlock frame features ...

Just look how well this frame as lasted a Whitlock work of art...

The bronze welding was always better than first class...

Tank stops still work and have not snapped off like they would have done by now on most frames...

Still with the seventies style folding footrests...This bike has been looked after in its lifetime.

Just look at the work that went into this frames bronze welding...

A good shot of the superb gusset plates and of the lock stops...

A good shot of the structural alloy bash plate fitted...

Top shock mount and neatness of joint just keeps "bigging up" this frame.

You can see that one mod has been to change the bottom shock mount, and look at the length of the wheel slots.

We just hope that we can get a test ride from Justyn on this, his bike, but we know that it handles realy well...

Note: this Ossa MAR of Justyn's is fitted with an Amal Concentric carb...

Mick Andrews changed his carb on his 310 Ossa to one from a Mono TY Yamaha... Changed the bike compleatly he said...

I think that the wheel plates have been changed in the bikes liftime.

The Class just shows through on this Ossa MAR , hoping for the history of the little machine from Justyn Norek Jnr later...

What a good machine to ride to work on... Class act...

The Whitlock framed Ossa MAR still today...

Much more later and we will do another page like this, with another machine later...

Brought to you by Justyn's Norek and BSA Otter...
